…and we’re live!

Well guys, the deed is done. We’re fully moved over from Dreamhost to Linode. Linode is a wonderful VPS provider, with full featured, reliable Xen hosting. If you do not know much about VPS hosting, understand this — Xen is wonderful from a user’s point of view. You get full control of your system setup, kernel, partitions, everything. You can pretty much configure it however you want it. A lot of VPS providers use OpenVZ — which is not a bad thing. Resources are shared, not dedicated. RAM is burstable. They all run from one kernel. While it is pretty flexible in configuration, there are some limitations (which I would rather not have). However, for most people, OpenVZ is perfect. And, along with the way it works, comes cheaper prices. If you’re looking for a good, reliable, cheap VPS, take a look at TDRevolution. They’re great. Their support is great. They support open source. They’re just…awesome (not that Linode isn’t, but it’s a matter of preference).

If you go with Linode, please use my referral code: 9d59c552a8d0e488d6cfd47ce5c17bf9bed883e2 (or this link) — It’ll give me $20 credit on my account after 90 days of you being a customer, and that’s awesome, because every penny counts.

If you decide to go TDRevolution, use promo code “cyanogen” — last I checked, it gives you your first month free. Check it out.

Find which one meets your needs, they’re both wonderful.

However, to the point:

It took a while, not because of anything serious, but, I’ve been working on a set of bash scripts to make managing a Debian Squeeze server much easier. And, we have a secure, multi-user environment. The scripts are not finished, but, they were in good enough shape to get the site live. If you’d like to see them, and/or track my progress on them, you can check them out at my github. I’m currently doing my work on the development branch, and it is a mess. However, once I get things straightened out, cleaned up, etc, I will be moving them to the master branch (ie: release 1.0), and continuing work in the development branch, and moving them over to the master branch as we hit milestones (ie: release 1.1, etc).

As this is a big project of mine, I will be publishing official releases here, with a featured *.tar.gz download.

I would like to give a big shout-out to Matt over at tuxlite — thanks for providing the base scripts, from which I based my set of scripts off of!

And, on that note, now that we have a full, real VPS, expect bigger and better things. They will be announced as they come, so keep your eyes open!

Gingerbread went into AOSP today, prepare for some delicious treats! Google was on the ball this time, just a day after the release of the Nexus S, and boom, source code! According to Twitter, Cyanogen is busy working with the code…

What’s that I smell baking in the kitchen? Could it be…?

T-Mobile G2

So, there haven’t been any updates recently, and this is why…

The T-Mobile G2

I got my T-Mobile G2 on Friday, and I’ve been using it since. It’s a great phone, very solid hardware. The whole “loose hinge” issue is not an issue, it is design. It is incredibly fast. I definitely think this was a wonderful update route from the Nexus One, and I can’t wait to see it rooted, and CyanogenMod installed, that shall truly unlock the potential of the hardware.

I’ve been working with a group of others on rooting the device. Well, we have temporary root, however, we are lacking eMMC NAND read-write access. If you think you can contribute to attaining this in one way, shape, form, etc, please go ahead and join us on IRC — #G2ROOT on irc.freenode.net:6667 (7000 for SSL).

However, do not let this post disappoint you. With the hardware being very similar to the Nexus One, once this is rooted, updates, themes, etc should be cross-compatible between the two devices. Also, I will try to get another update out to you guys within the next few days here, as I still have access to my Nexus One.

So, keep coming back, and expect updates and more stuff soon!

Well, I’ve got the site to a point where I like it. Its also 7:47 am. I’m done working on it for the night. There will, more likely than not, be more changes as time progresses. I hope everyone likes the new look!

I’m headed to bed, I will make a formal post with the new update packs later on, if you must have them now, check the downloads section.

Let me know how you feel about the site in the comments below!

Here is the new site, everyone. I decided to purchase unforgivendevelopment.com, simply because of the fact that .info domains are not nearly as professional. And in the process of doing so, I decided to do a complete overhaul.

I hope you enjoy it, keep tuned, and watch for updates!

There will be a new CyanogenMod 6 System Apps Update Pack coming your way soon!
